58% of Those in Texas Support Cannabis Legalization

A new poll conducted by Public Policy Polling has found that not only does a majority of those in Texas support cannabis legalization, texas there’s higher support in the state than the national average. 58% of Texans support legalization, according to the poll funded by the Marijuana Policy Project. Additionally, 61% support decriminalization, and only 31% oppose medical cannabis legalization.

This new poll finds undeniably that voters in Texas, despite it being one of the most conservative states in the nation, are ready for cannabis law reform, and the results will clearly help to push the conversation forward in a big way.

And it couldn’t be more needed.

In Texas, the possession of even a miniscule amount of cannabis can net someone a prison sentence of up to a year, and subsequent offenses can become much harsher.

We urge Texas advocates of cannabis reform to contact their district’s lawmakers (which they can look up by clicking here) to ask them to stand with their state’s majority in supporting legalization.
