23 of 32 NFL Teams are Located in States with Legal Recreational and/or Medical Cannabis
As the NFL maintains its full prohibition on cannabis use, it’s important to note that a minority of NFL teams live in a state where cannabis is legal all purposes.
There are currently 23 teams in the National Football League that are located in legal cannabis states; just nine teams have home-states where cannabis is illegal for all purposes.
Below are the seven teams located in states where cannabis is legal for all purposes:
- Denver Broncos
- Seattle Seahawks
- New England Patriots
- San Diego (soon to be LA) Chargers
- LA Rams
- Oakland Raiders and also
- The San Fransisco 49ers
Below are the 16 teams located in states where cannabis is legal for medical purposes:
- Miami Dolphins
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- Arizona Cardinals
- Baltimore Ravens
- Minnesota Vikings
- New York Jets
- New York Giants
- Buffalo Bills
- Chicago Bears
- Cincinnati Bengals
- Philadelphia Eagles
- Pittsburgh Steelers
- Cleveland Browns
- Detroit Lions

And finally, below are the nine teams located in states where cannabis is illegal for all purposes:
- Tennessee Titans

- Houston Texans

- Kansas City Chiefs and also
- The New Orleans Saints
If the vast majority of NFL players can legally use cannabis under their state’s law, the league should clearly make a change to address this. And, of course, the only reasonable change is to allow players to use cannabis if its legal in their state. Currently players are fined and suspended for using cannabis if it’s for medical purposes recommended by their physician and legal under state law.
