Texas Governor Announces His Support for Cannabis Decriminalization

Texas Governor Rick Perry announced today that he’s in support of decriminalizing cannabisperry, and urged the state in that direction. The announcement comes as a surprise to many in the political world given Perry’s often ultraconservative views on other issues, including cannabis legalization.

“After 40 years of the war on drugs, I can’t change what happened in the past”, says Perry. “What I can do as the governor of the second largest state in the nation is to implement policies that start us toward a decriminalization and keeps people from going to prison and destroying their lives”. He also says that “states should be allowed” to decide their own cannabis policies, free of federal interference.

The announcement comes just days after a state lawmaker announced that he’d soon be filing a proposal to reduce the penalty for possession of up to an ounce of cannabis from a Class B misdemeanor with a potential 6 month jail sentence, to a Class C misdemeanor which is punishable by a ticket.

Excellent news! Still, I advocate for the sick, especially children, who may benefit from medical marijuana.

I’m one of those people for whom NOTHING WORKS to mitigate my intractable pain. NOTHING except IV Morphine but as much as it helps, I can’t afford it and hate when I get hooked on it.

Three doctors have said that if it ever became legal in Texas, they’d not hesitate to Rx it for me. BUT, I need the low THC high pain relieving part of the weed.

In Israel, they are having success with CANCER and other diseases by using elements of marijuana. The U.S. is SO FAR behind other countries…

Yep, that is exactly right. We all knew this would happen as soon as they started seeing the “gobs” of money in taxes Colorado and Washington are going to be collecting.

I agree with legalization. We have to many people in jails do to possession of cannabis. We need to clear out the jails and put the real criminals in. I support the legalization especially the medical research that shows the health benefits fighting cancer and other diseases. Please send me the registration when available. Good Job Rick.
