Study: Cannabis Improves Healing of Broken Bones, Makes them Harder to Break

boneCannabis greatly improves the healing process of broken bones, and makes the bones harder to break in the future, according to a new study published in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research.

For the study, two sets of rats were injected with the cannabis compound cannabidiol (CBD), and with a combination of CBD and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

Although the combination of THC and CBD was effective in improving bone healing, researchers “found that CBD alone makes bones stronger during healing, enhancing the maturation of the collagenous matrix, which provides the basis for new mineralization of bone tissue,” according to Dr. Yankel Gabet of Tel Aviv University, who led the study.

Not only did CBD enhance the healing process, Dr. Gabet notes that; “After being treated with CBD, the healed bone will be harder to break in the future.”

The study, which can be found by clicking here, concludes; “Taken together, these data show that CBD leads to improvement in fracture healing and demonstrate the critical mechanical role of collagen crosslinking enzymes.”
