Senate Unanimously Approves Bill to Legalize Medical Cannabis Extracts in North Carolina

North Carolina’s Senate, with a unanimous vote, has passed House Bill 1220, a measure to legalize cannabis extracts for medical purposes. The proposal has already passed the state’s House (111 to 2 vote), but will go back for one final vote (which is expected to happen quickly) for heading to Governor Pat McCrory for consideration.

If approved into law, HB 1220 will allow for the possession of cannabis extracts that are low in THC and high in CBD, for those with seizure disorders who receive a recommendation from a neurologist and subsequently become registered with the state’s Department of Health. Neurologists would be authorized to dispense the medicine, and a provision in the bill allows and encourages colleges in the state to study cannabidiol as a potential treatment for “intractable childhood epilepsy”.

An amended added to the bill will allow for it to take effect immediately after being signed by the governor (or allowed to become law without his signature – his other option is vetoing it), rather than the end of October as it originally was.

Although the proposal clearly doesn’t go far enough, as more conditions should be covered and the whole plant should be allowed, the measure is still a step in the right direction and will help thousands of people.

yes, there are so many legitimate uses for hemp/cannabis oil extracts in treatments of cancers, fibromyalgia, and numerous others. I have a friend, with diagnosis of in-curable cancer, who has used it and has surpassed the time they said she would be around. Please consider other diseases/illnesses that could benefit from using this.

This is great news what’s happening . But one of my biggest concerns are right now are that we are not looking at the decriminalization at the federal level yet . If we don’t take this step at a time the the federal government can step in and make it illegal again nationwide, and take it away from us . We need to take it in the proper order by doing It needs to go by takeing first steps first. decriminalize before legalization. We need to do this, what do you think ?
