Reminder: Possessing an Ounce and a Half of Cannabis in Washington is a Felony
In Washington State the possession of up to an ounce of cannabis is legal for those 21 and older, due to the passage of Initiative 502 by voters in 2012. The initiative also legalized cannabis retail outlets, with hundreds opened throughout the state. With this in mind, many people don’t realize that possessing just 50% over the legal amount is a felony, punishable by up to 5 years in prison.
Based on RCW (Revised Code of Washington) 69.50, possessing anything over 40 grams is a class C felony, punishable by up to 5 years in prison, and a fine of up to $10,000; the same penalty applies to cultivating any amount of cannabis, or sharing any amount including passing a joint or pipe). If you possess even a pinch over an ounce, but no more than 40 grams, it’s a misdemeanor punishable by up to 90 days in jail and an $1,000 fine.
Those in Washington State who oppose this ridiculous disparity should sign the petition calling on lawmakers to support legislation that would end felonies for personal cannabis possession; the petition can be found by clicking here.

Washington Republican cannabis hater’s were unfortunately tasked with regulating the State’s cannabis laws. This was only possible because of low-voter turnout in 2014 (similar to last Tuesday’s) The very same people who’ve been trying to kill medical in Washington ( ever since it was voter passed in 1998). People Voting is the only way prohibition will ever truly disappear.

What’s goulish is she River’s appears to be so happy at the prospect of people rotting inside of a State prison due to her Bill 5052 (now State law).
