Poll: 60% of Likely California Voters Support Initiative to Legalize Cannabis

californiaA strong majority of those in California who are likely to vote in the upcoming election say they would vote “Yes” on an initiative to legalize recreational cannabis if given the chance. This is according to a new Probolsky Research poll.

According to the poll, 59.9% of likely California voters support legalizing cannabis for everyone 21 and older, compared to just 36.7% who are opposed to the move. Of those in support, 42.7% would “definitely vote yes” on a legalization initiative, compared to just 29.5% who would “definitely vote no”. 15.5% say they would “probably vote yes”, compared to 6.5% who would “probably vote no”.

Support was strongest among those aged 18 to 34, with 80% in support, as well as Democrats, with 69% in support. Republicans were the group least likely to support the initiative, at 38%.

The poll specifically referred to The Adult Use of Marijuana Act (AUMA), which advocates are hoping to place on this November’s general election ballot. If placed on the ballot and passed into law, it would legalize the possession, personal cultivation and retail distribution of cannabis for everyone 21 and older.

This AUMA is a bill from Hell, would outlaw outdoor cultivation and have a huge tax on medical marijuana which patients can already barely afford. Indoor cultivations are notoriously expensive and disabled patients often need to grow their own medicine, and do it outdoors so they don’t have $5000 electric bills. Please vote for instead, the California Cannabis and Hemp Initiative- http://www.CCHI2016.org.

It is a much cleaner (only one page) bill that does not corporatize the whole cannabis industry and drive vulnerable patients into the ground. It does not tax medical cannabis at all. Please sign the petitions for CCHI when it gets to you. DO NOT SIGN any other so-called “marijuana legalization” bills except for CCHI2016 at cchi2016.org. Send me a message if you don;t know where to sign.

Bad “legalization” laws are a real problem, and certainly are nowdays more “over-regulation” than they are “legalization”. In CA, the AUMA is a disaster. And, people are mistaken in the claims it will “let you grow your own”, when it will really permit local governments to flat out ban outdoor grows, and will permit “reasonable regulation” of your indoor grow (and we all know what THAT will mean – besides, most folks cannot grow indoors for many reasons).

This thing is a huge conglomeration of give-aways of power to storefronts and big farms, as well as litigation-ready employment for cops and lawyers. We can’t let the crappy be the enemy of the decent law we know is out there. The trick seems to be convincing some moneybag like Parker to back something worthwhile, and to convince the “pro pot lobby” to demonstrate a modicum of selectivity with their endorsements. The incremental “is it ANY better than what we have now?” (somewhat subjective, I might add) is threadbare at best, and probably harmful.

We are not beggars. Demographics are shifting fast. We don’t need to settle for a crap sandwich.

The time is NOW to legalize straight across the board. Enough of all these bills. Just do it and let the people make a happy day!

Enough of these bills. Just get on with it. This is America. We should have the frredomto choose what and how much we ingest. I am sick of all of the restrictions being put on a simple plant. Get real. God put it here. Use it.
