Pharmacists, Psychologists, Nurses and Physicians All Support Medical Marijuana in New York

A bill to legalize medical marijuana continues to gain momentum in New York as the state’s legislature pushes the measure forward, and as organizational support is on the rise. Medical-marijuana1

The measure, which would establish state-licensed dispensaries to distribute marijuana to qualified patients, has already been approved by two committees and now awaits a full Assembly vote: If it’s approved, as is anticipated, it will head to the Senate. According to the bill’s prime sponsor, the majority of the Senate is in favor.  New York’s governor isn’t in support of the proposal, but has stated he has an “open mind”, indicating he may let it become law if given the opportunity.

Recently over 600 physicians – under the banner of Physicians for Compassionate Care – held a press conference to announce their support for the measure, and to urge lawmakers to approve it. Helping to build on this momentum, a wide-range of high-profile organizations have now endorsed the group, and are also calling for medical marijuana legalization.

Here’s a list of some of the top organizations which are calling on lawmakers to legalize medical cannabis:

In addition to these organizations supporting the measure, recent polling found that an overwhelming 82% of New York residents are also in support.

I support making it legal to smoke. It is a lot safer and a lot better for pain than taking drugs!!!!

I have to drug test every month. I think they are making my condition worse by not letting me smoke it and giving me all of these drugs. They don’t get rid of the pain completely. The pot use to at least ease me off and I could get a good nights sleep. Now I just sleep about an hour at a time. I feel awful. This country needs to wake up and start doing things for the people and not just for our public officials.
