New Poll: 26% of Americans Would Purchase Cannabis if it Were Legal

A new HuffPost/YouGov poll has found that more than 1 out of 4 Americans would purchase cannabis if it were legal, compared to just 10% who say that they currently purchase cannabis. The poll surveyed 1,000 participants selected to matched the demographics of the adult U.S. populationjarOcannabis, taking into consideration age, race, gender, education, employment, income, marital status, number of children, voter registration and religion.

According to the poll, the response to cannabis legalization would be a clear increase in those wishing to purchase the substance (meaning that tax estimates for legalization are likely considerably lower than what they would actually be); while 10% of Americans responded that they have purchased cannabis before, 26% said that they would buy cannabis if it were legalized. On top of this, tobacco smokers were asked what they would buy more often if cannabis were legal, cigarettes or marijuana; 12% said cigarettes, and 15% said marijuana. 13% said they would buy the same amount of both.
