Nation’s Largest Cannabis Policy Organization Launches Voter Guide to 2016 Presidential Race

Rand Paul earns the top spot on the list of 22 presidential hopefuls graded by the Marijuana Policy Project; Chris Christie and Rick Santorum receive lowest grades

presidentThe Marijuana Policy Project (MPP), the nation’s largest organization working to change cannabis laws, has launched a voter guide to the 2016 presidential race, detailing the candidates’ positions on cannabis policy and assigning them grades based on where they stand.

“Most Americans recognize that marijuana is less harmful than alcohol and they think it should be made legal for adults,” says MPP Communications Director Mason Tvert. “Voters should know which candidates support rolling back prohibition and which ones are fighting to maintain it. People are becoming increasingly wary of the federal government’s role in our nation’s marijuana policies.”

For the voter guide, MPP “graded the 22 most widely discussed presidential hopefuls based on actions they have taken and statements they have made that indicate their levels of support for ending marijuana prohibition, allowing legal access to medical marijuana, and defending states’ rights to adopt their own marijuana policies without interference from the federal government.”

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) received the highest grade, an “A-,” based largely on his sponsorship of a medical cannabis bill, his support for reducing cannabis-related penalties, and his strong support for allowing states to regulate cannabis for adult use. Governor Chris Christie (R-NJ) and former Senator. Rick Santorum (R-PA) received the lowest grades, “F”s.

Thanks for putting this together. Please make sure it is updated and wide spread prior to the election. To me this is a states rights issues and any republican comes out hard lined against it they are hypocrites to the max.
