Iowa Legislature Votes to Legalize Cannabidiol

Iowa’s full Legislature has approved Senate File 2360, a measure to legalize the cannabis extract cannabidiol. The House and the Senate both approved the measure Thursday, with the House voting 77 to 20 and the Senate voting 38 to 8.

Cannabidiol is a nonpsychoactive compound found in cannabis.

If it becomes law, Senate File 2360 would legalize the cannabis extract cannabidiol for medical purposes; the extract could be consumed through a number of methods, including tinctures and oil. To legally possess and use cannabidiol, an individual would be required to receive a recommendation from a neurologist; if they do, they’ll be authorized to possess up to 32 ounces.

Governor Terry Branstad hasn’t said whether or not he’ll sign Senate File 2360; those in support of the measure should contact him by calling (515)-281-5211.
