Initiatives to Legalize Cannabis Approved in Oak Park and Hazel Park, Michigan

Voters in Hazel Park and Oak Park, Michigan, have approved initiatives tocannalegal legalize recreational cannabis. In Hazel Park the initiative was approved 62% to 38%, and in Oak Park it was approved 52% to 48%. Both initiatives were introduced by the Safer Michigan Coalition.

As with initiatives approved last year in the Michigan cities of Ferndale, Jackson and Lansing, the proposals approved in Oak Park and Hazel Park will legalize the possession of up to an ounce of cannabis for adults 21 and older.

The Safer Michigan Coalition has also been successful in getting cannabis initiatives approved in the cities of Detroit, Flint, and Michigan’s capitol, Lansing.

The group’s goal is to bring forth reform on the city level as a means of building up a coalition to get statewide legislation approved.
