Idaho Legislature Approves Medical Cannabis Bill, Sends it to Governor

Idaho’s full Legislature has given approval to Senate Bill 1146, a proposal to legalize cannabis extracts for the treatment of seizure disorders.

The proposal was approved with a 22 to 12 vote by the state’s Senate last month, and was given approval by the state’s House of Representatives this week with a 39 to 30 vote. The President of the Senate, and Speaker of the House, have both signed off on the bill, sending it to Governor Butch Otter for consideration.

If approved into law, Senate Bill 1146 would allow those with seizure disorders who receive a recommendation from a physician to possess and use cannabis extracts – such as tinctures and oils – that have low amounts of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), and high amounts of CBD (cannabidiol).

Governor Otter now has the option of passing the bill into law, allowing it to become law without his signature or vetoing it.
