According to a federal report, deputy Darell Mathis bragged to the undercover agent that he didn’t worry about getting caught because he “drives safely and flashes his police credentials to get out of tickets if he is stopped”.

Mathis, who was released on bail, is charged with marijuana distribution and carrying a firearm in the furtherance of a drug trafficking offense. Mathis faces up to 5 years in prison for the distribution charge, and up to life in prison for the weapons offense.
