Denver Council Rejects Proposals to Further Restrict Recreational Cannabis, Approves 3.5% Tax

This evening Denver’s City Council finally came to agreement on a tax rate for recreational cannabis,bill-gives-states-marijuana-tax-power-thcf which will be set at 3.5%. During the same meeting, the council rejected two proposals to further restrict recreational cannabis outlets.

Under one of the rejected proposals – which failed by one vote – cannabis retail outlets would have been prohibited from ever moving locations. The second rejected proposal – which failed 5 to 8 – would have prohibited recreational cannabis stores from being located within 2,500 feet from a school, a move which some council members argued would be an “effective ban”.

The 3.5% tax rate was purposefully set low, so to not encourage black-market purchased; “It’s important that, when these businesses are just starting out, we put them in a position to succeed because, long-term, we want this to work”, said Council Member Paul Lopez, “We want to make sure we do it the right way.”

Well lets give them credit for getting the tax question correct.

It wasn’t that long ago, and certain States even today controll liquor outlets, that licencees were allowed to trade outside city limits but not of the law. It’s just the recent prohibition of liquor made it that way. So how about some reasonableness in allowing trading to be as you put it more profitable, all round.

Lets escape this worry about all the untruths told about cannabis that brought about the bankrupcy of this country of ours. It’s no rocket science that Hemp was criminalised out of our economy to make room for all the new expensive plastic rubbish we now own. The cancers we grow. The chemicals we treat them with. The doctors who are only interested in their bottom line………… Our constitution bears crossed Hemp leaves under the opening statement. Have a look.

The States of the Union that get their hemp production going, will amaze those left out into joining the new age. If not then embarassment might.
