Cannabis Legalization Initiative Launched in Arizona

An initiative drive has launched in Arizona aimed at legalizing recreational cannabis. Proponents of the initiative – which is modeled after Colorado’s Amendment 64 – need to gather roughly 260,000 signaturesvotemarijuana by July 3rd, 2014, in order to put the proposal to a vote of the people in the 2014 general election ballot.

The initiative drive was launched by Dennis Bohlke, a 59-year-old computer programmer who is running the initiative under the organizational name of Safer Arizona.

“The intent of the initiative is to legalize marijuana in Arizona and to treat it as we treat alcohol,” stated Bohlke.

The effort would amend the state Constitution to allow people 18 and older “to consume or possess limited amounts” of marijuana, and would authorize state-licensed retail outlets.

According to Karen O’Keefe of the Marijuana Policy Project, the initiative would “makes sure the state wouldn’t waste any more money arresting people for using a substance that’s objectively safer than alcohol and tobacco.”

I do not use Marijuana but I do think it’s a good tool for medical reasons as well as creativity. Besides, There’s nothing really wrong with it other than laziness. Also the government can capitalize in taxing it which could help bring us out of debt.

In comparison to alcohol and cigarettes, marijuana has been proven much safer to consume. It is time we stop wasting money trying to stop people from using something that is less dangerous than what is already legal. Too many people are put in jail for menial crimes such as this as well as tax dollars spent on the drug war. This money could have been spent on catching true criminals. This needs to happen.

Marijuana is the safest drug with actual benefits for the user as opposed to alcohol which is dangerous, causes addiction, birth defects, and affects literally every organ in the body. Groups are organizing all over the country to speak their minds on reforming pot laws. I drew up a very cool poster featuring Uncle Willie Nelson and The Teapot Party for the cause which you can check out on my artist’s blog at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2011/01/vote-teapot-2011.html Drop in and let me know what you think!

It is great laws are changing.
The miss conception about pot is unreal. I have used many types of heavy duty opiates for severe back pain.
The point, I never have memory loss or being tired as there is many types that are relaxing kills pain and you have energy.
By passing this law I wont need to get a docs. approval every year for 150.00 plus the money to the state.
For those who don’t smoke your loosing out.
