Arizona Poll Shows Cannabis Legalization in Position to be Approved this November

Arizona Poll A new Arizona Republic/Morrison/Cronkite News poll has found that a plurality of voters in Arizona support legalizing cannabis. This is great news for proponents of Proposition 205, a cannabis legalization initiative being voted on this November.

According to the poll – which has a margin of error of 3.4% – 50% of voters in Arizona say they support legalizing recreational cannabis for everyone 21 and older. Just 39.9% are opposed to the idea, with 10% remaining undecided. Based on his poll, if the election were held today Prop 205 would be passed into law if just 0.1% of the undecided 10% of voters decided to vote in favor of it.

If it is passed into law Prop 205 would legalize the possession and use of up to an ounce of cannabis for those 21 and older. The personal cultivation of up to six plants would also be allowed, and a system of state-licensed cannabis retail outlets would be established.

The poll is a huge shift from polling released in July, which found just 39% of voters in the state to be in support of legalizing cannabis, with 54% opposed.

“We know that we’re ahead, and we know that if the vote were to be held tomorrow, we would win”, says J.P. Holyoak, chairman of the Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol. “We’re two months away from Election Day, and there’s a lot that could happen between now and then.”

The Arizona Republic/Morrison/Cronkite News poll surveyed 784 registered voters between Aug. 17 and Aug. 31.

Good news but why poll registered voters rather than likely voters?

Property values in every state that has legalized, especially Colorado, has shot up over 20/% statewide, more than that in some locals. Not only does this initiative provide tax money for schools, it provides increases that even non users will appreciate if they plan to upgrade their homes – and, just as Colorado is a haven in the Summer, Arizona is extremely popular in the Winter. I would expect the tax revenues to be equal to Colorado, and Arizona would be in perfect synergy with Colorado.
