New Mexico Attorney General Supports Decriminalizing Cannabis

Through his spokesman Phil Sisneros, New Mexico Attorney General Garynm King has announced that he’s in favor of decriminalizing the possession of small amounts of cannabis, an announcement that will add weight to the growing conversation surrounding cannabis law reform in the state.

The announcement came when Sisneros was asked King’s opinion on a recent move by the Sante Fe City Council which decriminalized up to an ounce of cannabis for those 21 and older.

“The attorney general is in favor of decriminalizing marijuana laws such as the council has done”, Sisneros told the Albuquerque Journal.

In March, New Mexico’s House of Representatives approved a proposal to decriminalize up to 4 ounces of cannabis, though it unfortunately stalled in the Senate.
