Minnesota Senate Judiciary Committee Votes to Legalize Medical Cannabis

The Minnesota Senate Judiciary Committee has voted in favor of legalizing medical cannabis, including medical cannabis dispensaries. By approving Senate Bill 1641, whichmedcannabis was approved last week by the Senate Health, Human Services and Housing Committee, and yesterday by the Senate State and Local Government Committee, the Judiciary Committee sends the measure to the full Senate.

If the measure is approved into law, the possession of up to 2.5 ounces of cannabis will be legal for those who receive a recommendation from a physician. State-licensed dispensaries will be legalized in order to provide safe access to the medicine.

House Bill 1818, a companion bill to Senate Bill 1641, was approved last month by the House Health and Human Services Policy Committee.
