Maryland Legislature Approves Measure to Decriminalize Cannabis, Heads to Governor

Maryland’s Senate gave final approval today to Senate Bill 364, a proposal to decriminalize the possession of small amounts of cannabis.newhampshirecannabislegal The measure has already passed the full House, and now heads to the governor for consideration.

If signed into law by the governor, or allowed to become law without his signature, the possession of up to 10 grams of cannabis would no longer carry with it the potential of jail time, but instead would be reduced to a simple $100 ticket. A person’s second offense would be a ticket of $250, and subsequent offenses would be a $500 ticket. Those under 21 would be required to take drug rehab classes.

Senate Bill 364 would take effect on October 1st.
