Maryland Lawmakers Approve Medical Cannabis Legalization

In an 127 to 9 vote, Maryland’s full House of Representatives has approved House Bill 1321medicalmaryland, a measure to explicitly legalize medical cannabis. The proposal – which has over 60 sponsors – now heads to the Senate, where its passage is expected.

If approved into law, House Bill 1321 would legalize medical cannabis for those with a qualifying condition, such as cancer, post traumatic stress disorder, and chronic pain.

The bill would authorize state-licensed cannabis cultivation and distribution centers which would provide safe access to medical cannabis for patients.

Last week Maryland’s Senate approved a separate cannabis-related measure which would remove criminal penalties for the possession of up to 10 grams.
